In my home state of PA, my Home Improvement Contractor number is HIC20128, and my New Jersey number is 13VH09335700. Each contractor has their own number assigned to them. What does this mean for you? Well, you can go to https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/resources/home-improvement-contractor-registration/ and type in the Pennsylvanian’s contractor’s numbers to see if there are any negative marks against them. It’s there for you, and you should use it! In New Jersey you would go to https://newjersey.mylicense.com/verification_4_6/Search.aspx?facility=Y. It’s truly one of the first things you should check out.

You have doubts still huh? Ok, let’s consider whether your contractor has the proper insurance. These laws for us to follow are for your benefit, and to be honest, I like them. I want to be known as an authentic contractor who uses what the law makes us do to my advantage. I love that it separates the fraud contractors from the legitimate contractor.
