Welcome and Thank you for tuning to Preferred Carpentry Podcast. I am your host Michael DiSomma and my mission is to establish trust with my listeners and customers close to my area and anyone interested in the content I will bring to you.

As this is my first podcast, I wanted to offer you podcasts once a week that will range between 10-30 minutes long, and the more I become comfortable with this, I’m sure it will get better with material, and to do that, I would love your feedback. The content is going to be 100% real, raw, authentic, and based off of your feedback. I hope to entertain you with information that will range from how I got started doing carpentry and construction, to why I chose to start a podcast. If you have any particular topics you would like to hear me talk about, feel free to email me at Preferred_carpentry@live.com. And since this is a worldwide podcast, I have no idea the route it will go and anybody can give me ideas and options. No matter where you are on the globe, I feel you will enjoy what this show will become.

I plan for it to be a solo show at first. It’s your feedback that will help set the path to the show. I am even opened to interview anyone, even you! If you’re interested in engaging with my listeners with me, and you would like to be on my podcast, we can do an interview to do a buyer’s persona. I could ask you questions and you can help me with my business to cater to what is best for you. I believe that we all fit into different types of culture and categories, for example, you may be a do it yourselfer and just need some guidance, or you may be someone that prefers an expert, each situation or problem needs to be addressed specifically and your help is important to me and to customers just like you. Or, maybe you would want to ask the business some questions, I could invite a past customer that I have done work for to a show for some small talk and bantering, or invite a close friend or a business friend to the show. Your feedback will help drive the show to whatever direction you’re interested in it to go.

As you learn more about the business here via audio, you can check out what Preferred Carpentry is up to on Facebook.com forward slash Preferred Carpentry llc. If you use Twitter we are at we prefer you, Instagram at Preferred Carpentry llc, the same as Facebook, and If you want, you can even follow my personal Instagram which is at Mikey D 1280. I hope you will enjoy the show, recommend your friends to listen in as well. I do have some prizes I can give away also. I have t shirts in different sizes, some keychain bottle openers, note pads, pens, and some other things. I’m actually in the process of getting a prototype wine glass with the logo etched into it. And since I’m on merchandise that you can win as a prize, I would love feedback on what you feel is more practical for you. This is where the buying persona come in as well. The main focus of this podcast is to bring trust and content you want. I am stressing on this because it’s all for you.

One thing I have only thought to do and never perused was creating content for YouTube. YouTube is the video world, and this podcast being the audio world. The main reason why I didn’t is because, well to be honest, the ignorant people that put hateful comments and bash a person for how they choose to do something. I get that people definitely do things wrong and against code, but even when someone does something right, but because it’s not the way that the viewer would do it, they give the video a thumbs down. I mean, people thumbs down a little kid singing the alphabet. That is a cute video that a little kid wanted to do, and these ignorant people discourage creativity. I guess I got discouraged from posting videos. It wasn’t until I got older, that I learned what “trolling” is. I was raised with compassion and empathy and when YouTube came out, all sorts of people in the world comment with things and I honestly was naïve. I wasn’t a sheltered kid by any means, but I had no idea people actually can be so demeaning, but now I know it is how people are and I can’t let it bother me. Plus, to be honest with you, I tell my customers and my friends to use YouTube at their own risk. Have you ever YouTubed something you’re proficient in and notice that there are videos of people doing what you know, and they are doing it wrong? Ever be like “oh my god, how is this even allowed to be published?” So, I don’t know, how about you let me know? Do you use YouTube, do you swear by it? Do you put up your own videos? HEY, if so, if you post videos on YouTube, would you like to be on my podcast as I would have some questions for you and I’m sure my listeners may have some questions for you in which I can ask. This is hopefully going to be an interactive type of podcast if that’s how you want it to be. And if you prefer to listen on your drive, that’s cool too. I’m hopeful most will find it entertaining.

Getting back to the other platforms, Facebook.com forward slash Preferred Carpentry llc is the one I use the most. On Facebook, I post a lot of videos, live videos, photos of work pictures, and I put up a lot of different content. I am very active there over Instagram. I post more on my personal Instagram than I do on my business Instagram. On Twitter at we prefer you, I started a new account about 2 weeks ago and I post actively there. My friends and family from home give me great feedback regarding my content on Facebook. See, I want to stand out from my competitors and show my customers that not all contractors are out to take advantage of you, and we are real people too. I offer all kinds of options to your project and think of ways to help you save money. I am a long-term thinker and I believe being upfront and honest with my customers during the whole process. I enjoy what I do and I appreciate my customers for referring more business to me. And for those that are not close to my area, I still believe this podcast will benefit you because you can use it to gauge against the contractors in your area. HMM, That could be some good content for the show, you can email me or maybe do an email audio that I can post on the show with your concern slash problem and we can figure it out together, see look at that, finding more flexibility in this podcast for my worldwide and close to home listeners. But I have to say this, I’m not a lawyer, I have no expert degree. I will say, please use practical common sense and I don’t want to be bound by any legality. What you are hearing here is my opinion although I do follow codes and manufacturing recommendations. I don’t mind things being done differently, such as if you really want your crown molding upside down, and I tell you it is not to be installed that way, but you insist, I will do what you ask because it wont fall, that would be preference. But, if you ask me to run a hardwood floor the opposite direction that the manufacturer recommends, I wouldn’t do it. Now, that may not be against your local codes, but if you run it wrong, it has a better chance of cupping, and the joining pieces could separate. I rather in 5 years when that could happen, that you don’t say that Preferred Carpentry installed it, even if we said it won’t be covered under a warranty. So, I don’t want the credibility of the name get tarnished when the business cannot defend itself during coffee small talk. I hope that made sense. What I am telling you is my opinion, and based off of the codes in my area. For example, in Easton, PA, they go by the 2009 IRC and building codes. Right now it’s 2018, that’s nine years later and they still go by those codes. And codes update every 3 years. In New Jersey, they go by different codes. Each area is governed by the codes of that state or town or city. Wouldn’t life be easier if the United States could at least unite on the same code standards, at least in specific areas. Like, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania could all be on the same page, and I get if Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada are on different codes because those groups are different in many aspects, but similar in their own group. SO you need to check what your area calls for. This is to cover you and me as well regarding information.

So, to quick recap this weeks episode, I am looking to bring you content once a week, I don’t have a set day in mind yet, most likely Friday’s I’ll release it, I would like to keep it 10-30 minutes long. I would love your feedback for what you want for content, whether it’s a question of what to look for, what to consider, should you hire someone or do it yourself, should the show have a guest and if so, with who, would you want to be on the show? How about any YouTube stars looking to share some information.  Should it be a friend of mine. Now, I am not famous nor do I know anyone famous, so don’t say “hey I want so and so on here”, I am just a regular guy like you.  Whatever you’re looking to have here, send your thoughts to email me at preferred_carpentry@live.com . It doesn’t have to be construction related all the time.

If you want to learn how I got started, so how about I give a little insight on that, the business had a different name before it was Preferred Carpentry, I amended the name, I didn’t dissolve the previous name, I just want to be clear with that. So the best way I can think to explain it is, the name used to have more of a mom and pop feel to the name, like just a local name, and as I got better, and more confident on what I can bring to homeowners and business owners via construction skills, I decided that the name Preferred Carpentry has more credibility in it. So basically, as I got better, I felt it was time to change it. So that’s as far as I’ll go into this. If you want to learn more, send me an email.

I appreciate you listening in. I am your host Michael DiSomma and my mission is to establish trust with my listeners, my subscribers, and customers close to my area and worldwide, and anyone interested in the content I will bring to you. Thank you for your time and I’ll be back Friday August 17, 2018. And at that time I may not have any emails yet, but I will find some content to give you. I don’t know, but you will know when I know next Friday.. Thank you and I hope you have a good one! Bye
